Shot-peening

A specialism in the area of blasting methods is shot-peening and glass-peening. For these processes absolutely round media has to be used to get an improvement of the surface structure of metals. What actually happens at the metal surface? The bombardment with round media causes a mechanical vibration on the object and the resultant stresses created on the surface cause the surface oxides and dirt etc, to be removed. A further result of this treatment process is that the resistance to fatigue of the surface material will be increased strongly and the tendency to form cracks under load will be reduced.
